Vote NO on the ‘Right to Work’ Constitutional Amendment

In 1947 a bill became law that made Virginia a “right to work state.” This means anyone can go to work at a union company without being required to join the union. This is the law and no constitutional amendment is needed!

Next month, voters in Virginia will decide whether or not to amend our state constitution. This anti-worker amendment would enshrine in Virginia’s Constitution a nearly 70 year old right to work law that hurts our ability to collectively bargain.  This is a thinly-veiled union-busting effort by Republicans to enable corporations to avoid paying hard-working Virginians a living wage.

SIGN THE PLEDGE TO VOTE NO ON THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT!

Virginia’s Constitution is the foundational document of our Commonwealth and does not need to be changed. Voters want our elected leaders to focus on policies that strengthen our communities, fund our schools, fix our crumbling infrastructure, wages, and create good jobs for hard working Virginians. This amendment is a distraction from the real issues and Virginia’s working families deserve better from our elected representatives.

Protect Our Constitution. Vote NO on 1 this November.

LCV Action Fund Endorses Jane Dittmar for Congress

League of Conservation Voters Endorses Jane Dittmar

Jane Dittmar for Congress“Virginia is already experiencing the impacts of climate change and needs leaders who will always stand up for the environment. Jane Dittmar understands both the threat of climate change and the economic opportunity there is in making Virginia a leader in clean energy,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “In Congress, she will continue to build on her strong record of environmental leadership and putting Virginia families first.”

“As a small businesswoman and local elected official, Jane Dittmar understands that we can have both a healthy environment and a strong economy,” said Virginia League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Michael Town. “She is a tireless advocate devoted to protecting Virginians’ air, land and water, and grow our economy by investing in infrastructure and good-paying clean energy jobs.”

“It is an honor to be endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” Dittmar said. “The LCV and I both know that protecting our environment isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s how we secure our planet for our children’s future and generations to come. The time for questioning the existence of climate change has long passed; it is our responsibility to take action now to mitigate the damage that has been done. I look forward to working for environmental protection and clean energy investment when I am in Congress.”

#GetConnected

A well-paying, meaningful job for every adult is at the root of addressing most of the fundamental challenges of our country. Jane supports essential job growth by working with localities to determine and then represent their economic objectives in Washington.

Our rural neighbors are without access to basic information, telemedicine, emergency services, online job postings, veteran’s online services, and telecommuting opportunities. Children, whose homework increasingly relies on Internet resources, fall behind while parents cannot pursue job applications found only on the Internet. With all of the obstacles our economies already face, the lack of access to this essential infrastructure is a roadblock to success and is crippling to our rural families. Jane knows where the resources exist to provide affordable, reliable Internet access, and Jane will work relentlessly to ensure that those resources are brought home to the 5th district.
