A Lifetime Texas Republican Drops Out Of The Party Of Hate With This Epic Resignation Letter

“At the national level, the delusions necessary to sustain our Cold War coalition were becoming dangerous long before Donald Trump arrived. From tax policy to climate change, we have found ourselves less at odds with philosophical rivals than with the fundamentals of math, science and objective reality.”

GOP, RIP?

The party of Lincoln disintegrates into to the party of Trump

TrumpRepublicans who are not in the least progressive have reason to mourn what is likely to come to pass this week: the transformation of the Party of Lincoln and Dwight Eisenhower into the Party of Trump. Some are bravely resisting this outcome to the end — and good luck to them. A fair number of leading Republicans have stated flatly that they will never vote for Trump. Their devotion to principle and integrity will be remembered.

But so many others in the party have found ways of rationalizing support for a man who plainly does not take governing, policy or even what he says from one day to the next seriously. It is comical but also embarrassing to watch politicians and consultants fall all over themselves to declare that Trump is “maturing” because every once in a while, he reads partisan talking points off a teleprompter. This is seen as a great advance over the normal Trump, whose free-association rants refer to his opponents as “lyin’,” “crooked,” “sad,” “weak,” “low-energy” and — in the very special case of Sen. Elizabeth Warren — “Pocahontas.”

Many Republicans oppose Trump because they see him as the one candidate most likely to lose to Hillary Clinton. But others fear something worse: a Trump victory. They know that his presidency would represent a grave danger to the republic, a repudiation of the most noble Republican aspirations, and the end of their party as a serious vehicle for governance. The GOP can survive a Trump defeat. It will never get over being permanently defined by his politics of flippant brutality.

The Most Overrated Intellect In Washington

If details enable #Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan’s opponents to discredit his ideas, then Ryan defends himself by refusing to offer details. As Tara Culp-Ressler notes, Ryan’s latest set of health care proposals “doesn’t include information about exactly how many people would be covered, exactly how much the proposal would cost, or exactly how much assistance Americans would receive in the form of tax credits to help them buy insurance.”

The Trump Veep Stakes

Escalating the #Republican War on Women to new highs lows.

Trump Veep Stakes

Donald Trump claims to “cherish” women, but his actions — and words — suggest otherwise.

Fox News’ Megyn Kelly called him out on his sexist behavior during the GOP debate on August 6, reminding him: “You have called women you don’t like ‘fat pigs’, ‘dogs’, ‘slobs’, and ‘disgusting animals.”

Trump laughed off the question, claiming he doesn’t “have the time for total political correctness.” Later, Trump called Kelly a “bimbo” and said that he “didn’t recognize” the remarks she was referencing.

Well, we recognize them.  Here are some of the outrageous things Trump has said about women:

  • That giving your wife “negotiable assets” is a terrible mistake.
  • That women are essentially aesthetically-pleasing objects.
  • That sexual assault in the military is totally expected.
  • That women on “The Apprentice” need to rely on sex appeal.
  • That bad press doesn’t matter as long as you have a sexy girlfriend.
  • That a woman MUST be hot in order to be a journalist.
  • That pumping breast milk is “disgusting.”
  • That all women hate prenups, because they are gold diggers.
  • That women have a “great act” going on to trick men.
  • That Hillary would be a bad president because of her husband’s actions.
  • That Angelina Jolie has dated too many guys to be attractive.
  • That Bette Midler’s “ugly face and body” are offensive.
  • That Rosie O’Donnell is “crude, rude, obnoxious and dumb.”
  • That Cher is ‘lonely’ and ‘a loser’ because she doesn’t support him.
  • That women fawn all over him because he is rich and powerful.
  • That the ladies on “The Apprentice” are all super in to him.
