Vote NO on the ‘Right to Work’ Constitutional Amendment

In 1947 a bill became law that made Virginia a “right to work state.” This means anyone can go to work at a union company without being required to join the union. This is the law and no constitutional amendment is needed!

Next month, voters in Virginia will decide whether or not to amend our state constitution. This anti-worker amendment would enshrine in Virginia’s Constitution a nearly 70 year old right to work law that hurts our ability to collectively bargain.  This is a thinly-veiled union-busting effort by Republicans to enable corporations to avoid paying hard-working Virginians a living wage.

SIGN THE PLEDGE TO VOTE NO ON THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT!

Virginia’s Constitution is the foundational document of our Commonwealth and does not need to be changed. Voters want our elected leaders to focus on policies that strengthen our communities, fund our schools, fix our crumbling infrastructure, wages, and create good jobs for hard working Virginians. This amendment is a distraction from the real issues and Virginia’s working families deserve better from our elected representatives.

Protect Our Constitution. Vote NO on 1 this November.

Dittmar Dominates 5th District Candidate Forum at Woodberry Forest

(Madison, VA)   Jane Dittmar, Democratic candidate for Virginia’s 5th District, dominated the Rural Madison sponsored debate at Woodberry Forest tonight.

Dittmar’s command of the facts and understanding of the district overpowered Garrett’s rambling and often inaccurate statements. The forum featured questions prepared by the Rural Madison committee and students from both Woodberry Forest and Madison County Schools.

The questions covered a variety of issues facing the country and included questions about the economy, national security, social security, and more.

“I saw nothing worthwhile from Tom Garrett tonight,” said Suzanne Long who was in attendance. “He continues to offer up only gimmicks and criticisms instead of real plans. The one plan he did offer to reduce student debt only jeopardizes social security and makes no sense at all.”

Meanwhile, Dittmar proposed scrapping the artificial cap on high-income earners —a solution that would keep Social Security solvent for decades to come.

The time for questioning the existence of climate change has long passed; it is our responsibility to take action now to mitigate the damage that has been done. I look forward to working for environmental protection and clean energy investment when I am in Congress.”
