By now you’ve surely seen the graphic critical of Hillary Clinton that the presumptive Republican presidential candidate tweeted out over the holiday weekend, just as his rival was set to be grilled by the FBI for its investigation into email practices at the State Department. The meme shared in Trump’s tweet featured a six-pointed star, a pile of cash and the words “most corrupt candidate ever” superimposed near Clinton’s face.

Hardly the most subtle dogwhistle, Trump’s tweet quickly drew criticism online before the Star of David symbol was quietly removed. But, not before ex-KKK leader David Duke noticed the change. Duke tweeted that despite the walk-back by the Trump campaign, he welcomed “the hidden hand
