EFFECTIVE 5 PM FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26: JANE DITTMAR IS SOLE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE IN RACE FOR VIRGINIA’S 5TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
(Charlottesville, VA – February 26, 2016) Effective 5 PM today, Jane Dittmar is the sole Democratic candidate in the race for Virginia’s 5th District congressional seat. Potential candidates had until 5 pm today, February 26th, to officially file their candidacy with the Federal Elections Committee. The Dittmar campaign launched in September of 2015 and is campaigning on an economic platform to enhance workforce training, create jobs, and bring affordable, reliable Internet to everyone in the 5th district.
Democrats in the 5th district will participate in a convention to officially nominate Dittmar on May 7th. The campaign, in conjunction with the twenty-three county and city democratic parties and the 5th district Democratic Party, have been securing delegates for Dittmar over the past several weeks. The campaign continues to fundraise, attend Democratic Party meetings and meet & greet events, and increase awareness about the Dittmar campaign.
“We are excited and honored to officially be the only Democratic campaign in the race, but our work has just begun,” said Dittmar. “We have known all along that this race would require hard work every single day leading up to November 8th and our team is incredibly focused. As we fundraise and travel around the district, our main goal is to increase awareness about our campaign and our platform, get out the vote, and connect with the residents of the 5th.
