GRIZZLY STEPPE – Russian Malicious Cyber Activity

This Joint Analysis Report (JAR) is the result of analytic efforts between the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This document provides technical details regarding the tools and infrastructure used by the Russian civilian and military intelligence Services (RIS) to compromise and exploit networks and endpoints associated with the U.S. election, as well as a range of U.S. Government, political, and private sector entities. The U.S. Government is referring to this malicious cyber activity by RIS as GRIZZLY STEPPE.

The U.S. Government confirms that two different RIS actors participated in the intrusion into a U.S. political party. The first actor group, known as Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) 29, entered into the party’s systems in summer 2015, while the second, known as APT28, entered in spring 2016.

A Broad Coalition of Non-Partisan Decency

Samantha Bee and Glenn Beck agree: ‘It’s all of us against Trumpism’

Over the years, Beck established himself as a controversial firebrand, and he’s been lambasted continually by the left. He was a favorite target for Jon Stewart when he hosted “The Daily Show.”

But the rise of Donald Trump coincided with an unusual turnaround by Beck, who made it public that he wouldn’t vote for the Republican nominee, and received plenty of blowback from some of his fans. This year, Beck said President Obama has “made me a better man.” He insisted that the Black Lives Matter movement has a valid point. “You can’t be as universally disliked as I am, and not do some soul-searching,” Beck said in August.

So Beck and Bee getting together to find some common ground actually makes a lot of sense. The “Full Frontal” host kicked off the segment by replaying clips showing she was open to criticizing liberals and recognizing reasonable arguments made by conservatives.

But still: “Even if all you said for the rest of your life was reasonable things, I think you’ve still earned a permanent side-eye from [my audience],” Bee told Beck. “Is that okay with you?”

Beck said that was a rational response. But why invite him on “Full Frontal?”

“I think our future is going to require a broad coalition of non-partisan decency,” Bee answered. “It’s not just individual people against Donald Trump. It’s all of us against Trumpism. So I think it’s actually important for us to reach into places where we wouldn’t normally reach.”

Trump raises specter of treason

FBI agrees with CIA that Russia aimed to help Trump winThere are several possible explanations for Trump’s position. They are not mutually exclusive. First, he may be trying to shore up his political standing before the Electoral College vote on Monday. Second, he may be attempting to undermine the credibility of US intelligence agencies in advance of his taking office so that he can intimidate them and have a freer hand in reshaping the intelligence product to suit his objectives. Third, he may be testing his ability to go over the heads of intelligence professionals and congressional critics and persuade the American public to follow his version of the truth about national security threats. And finally, he may be seeking to cover up evidence of involvement or prior knowledge by members of his campaign team or himself in the Russian cyberattack.

In light of these circumstances, Trump should seek to clear the air by endorsing the proposed investigation of the Russian hacking scandal. For him to continue to deny Russia’s cyberattack and resist the investigation invites a specter of treason to hover over the president-elect.

In each case the president-elect is inviting an interpretation that his behavior is treasonous. The federal crime of treason is committed by a person “owing allegiance to the United States who . . . adheres to their enemies, giving them aid or comfort,” and misprision of treason is committed by a person “having knowledge of the commission of any treason [who] conceals and does not disclose” the crime. By denigrating or seeking to prevent an investigation of the Russian cyberattack Trump is giving aid or comfort to an enemy of the United States, a crime that is enhanced if the fourth explanation applies — that he is in fact seeking to cover up his staff’s or his own involvement in or prior knowledge of the attack.

Trump raises specter of treason – The Boston Globe

A specter of treason hovers over Donald Trump. He has brought it on himself by dismissing a bipartisan call for an investigation of Russia’s hacking of the Democratic National Committee as a “ridiculous” political attack on the legitimacy of his election as president.

Donald Trump Is Gaslighting America

Donald Trump Is Gaslighting America

Donald Trump Is Gaslighting AmericaThe CIA officially determined that Russia intervened in our election, and President-elect Donald Trump dismissed the story as if it were a piece of fake news. “These are the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction,” his transition team wrote in a statement. “The election ended a long time ago in one of the biggest Electoral College victories in history. It’s now time to move on and ‘Make America Great Again’.”

It wasn’t one of the biggest Electoral College victories in history, so presumably that’s another red-herring lie to distract from Trump treating the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States like it is some rogue blogger to be cast to the trolls. A foreign government’s interference in our election is a threat to our freedom, and the President-elect’s attempt to undermine the American people’s access to that information undermines the very foundation upon which this country was built. It’s also nothing new.

Trump won the Presidency by gas light. His rise to power has awakened a force of bigotry by condoning and encouraging hatred, but also by normalizing deception. Civil rights are now on trial, though before we can fight to reassert the march toward equality, we must regain control of the truth. If that seems melodramatic, I would encourage you to dump a bucket of ice over your head while listening to “Duel of the Fates.” Donald Trump is our President now; it’s time to wake up.

Trump Administration Suspends First Amendment

#womensmarchThe NPS, on behalf of the Presidential Inauguration Committee, filed a “massive omnibus blocking permit” for many of Washington DC’s most famous political locations for days and weeks before, during and after the inauguration on 20 January. Large swaths of the national mall and Pennsylvania Avenue, the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial for the inauguration festivities will be closed to protesters.

The Facebook event page still has the Lincoln Memorial listed as the event’s address, but it won’t be held at the historic location.

“The Lincoln Memorial is not possible,” said Cassady Fendlay, spokeswoman for the women’s march on Washington. She said march organizers were not associated with the Answer Coalition, and have “had no issues with the permitting process at all”.

“We are in conversation with the police. We have secured another location,” said Fendlay, declining to name where the march would now take place but saying it would be nearby.

Women’s March on Washington barred from Lincoln Memorial

National Park Service documents bar access to key sites around time of inauguration, including those celebrated for their role in 1960s protests For the thousands hoping to echo the civil rights and anti-Vietnam rallies at Lincoln Memorial by joining the women’s march on Washington the day after Donald Trump’s inauguration: time to readjust your expectations.
